Frequently
Asked Questions
Which martial
art should I try?
Our
instructors have many diverse backgrounds which allows you to try
many different styles at Boulder Martial Arts. Remember that
it is the instructors personal style that creates a positive
learning environment.
Why Boulder
Martial Arts?
We are
Boulder's finest martial arts school. Our staff has developed one
of the safest and most comprehensive programs in the United
Sates.
Are there
any age limits?
We offer
classes for anyone over the age of 4. We offer different
level classes for all different ages and physical abilities.
We do not have an upper age limit. Some adults
have obtained their black belts well into their senior
years.
Do
I need to be an athlete to train?
No.
Every student has the opportunity to train at their own
level. This allows each student to receive an individualized
workout with maximum benefits.
We welcome students of all physical abilities, including those
with physical challenges.
Do I need
experience?
No
previous experience is needed. All that you need is a desire
to learn. We welcome all students from other martial arts who want
to learn.
What is a
typical class like?
We start
each class with a light warm up and stretch to prevent muscle
sprains and injuries.
The lessons of individual classes vary to keep things fun and
interesting, but often include choreographed sequences of
movements, punching, kicking, self-defense, throwing and grappling
drills. Sparring with protective pads is practiced regularly, with
emphasis on light, safe contact using technique rather than
strength. In classes with younger martial artists we often
incorporate a
game into the end of each class for physical
development and fun!
Will I learn
practical self-defense?
Yes! Our self-defense is a key part of our martial
art. All self-defense is age and ability specific to offer
the best outcome for every situation. What
do I call the teachers?
Because we feel that
respect is conveyed by attitude rather than a title. As a
result, our instructors are called by their first names in class.
At some points in class, instructors or other students are
referred to as ma'am or sir.
